Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
